RAF Typhoon jets have conducted a mission with France's air force in a coordinated attack against an subterranean weapons facility in Syria used by the IS group, as stated by the UK Ministry of Defence.
The location, located using intelligence, was believed to be storing arms and explosives, the announcement noted, and was situated in mountainous terrain just above the ancient city of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to target a number of entry passages providing entry to the facility... initial indications indicate the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any civilian casualties in the strike on Saturday evening and each participating jet returned safely, the MoD added.
The Typhoon FGR4s were supported by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
IS - alternatively referred to as Daesh - imposed jihadist rule over parts of both Syria and Iraq prior to its 2019 collapse.
